Just hours after returning from England's home friendly against Germany, David Beckham was named captain for LA Galaxy's MLS clash against local rivals Chivas USA at the Home Depot Center on Thursday. He appeared to aggravate a nagging left ankle injury early in the first half. Chivas controlled the tempo from the opening whistle and LA were indebted to 'keeper Joe Cannon for producing a string of saves. In the dying seconds of the first half, a foul on Beckham caused tempers to boil over. The ensuing melee saw Chivas defender Alex Zotinca head-butt Galaxy midfielder Kevin Harmse, who swung a fist in the other direction. Both players were sent off. Thirteen minutes into the second half, a gaffe by LA's Kyle Veris gifted Chivas' opening goal to Maykel Galindo. With the Galaxy defence looking increasingly stretched, Galindo rounded off a well-worked move a little over 10 minutes later to double his team's lead. UPSOUND (English) "He's got another one... Maykel Galindo." And Francisco Mendoza sealed a comfortable win in the 88th minute. Having won only three of their 17 MLS games this season, the Galaxy remain second bottom in the Western standings.
