Colorado Rapids' latest MLS encounter saw them visit Western Division rivals Real Salt Lake on a rainy Saturday night at the Rice-Eccles Stadium. Both teams still had slim hopes of making the play-offs. The Rapids' Jacob Peterson shot narrowly wide in the 5th minute. In the 20th minute, Peterson saw another chance go begging when his header was kept out by Nick Rimando. Real Salt Lake broke the deadlock just before the half-hour mark. Bouna Coundoul parried Chris Brown's shot, but Kyle Brown was alert to the rebound to put his side in front. The Rapids' best chance to equalise came in the 85th minute. But Rimando kept out Jose Cancela's free-kick, and Omar Cummings failed to keep his shot on target in front of goal. Colorado's defeat means they are now three points off the eighth and final play-off spot, currently held by the Chicago Fire, who drew 1-1 with D.C. United on Sunday.
