FC Dallas were boosted by the return of all-star midfielder Juan Toja from injury for the visit of Chicago Fire on Thursday evening. Arturo Alvarez had the home side's best chance of the first half, but after cutting inside, his shot - and Abe Thompson's follow up - was saved by Matt Pickens. Opposite goalkeeper Dario Sala also did his bit to keep the scoreline blank at half-time, tipping Chris Rolfe's strike onto the crossbar. Rolfe, though, gave Chicago the lead in the 56th minute. The US international, playing in a wide midfield role instead of his usual striking one, tried his luck from distance and it flew in. Clarence Goodson nearly equalised in the 78th minute when he met Alvarez's ball, but Pickens made another good save. Carlos Ruiz was also denied with two minutes left. However, the Guatemalan international had the last laugh deep into injury-time. Ruiz raced onto Goodson's flick to secure a point for Dallas. Chicago remain in the eighth and final play-off place, but Ruiz's goal denied the visitors their first MLS win in Texas in nine attempts.
