  • An expectant crowd of over 32,000 turned up to see the Kansas City Wizards take on the Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS on Thursday night. The home team had plenty of opportunities in the first half, and Eddie Johnson was lively early on. He nearly put the Wizards ahead in the ninth minute, but his effort bounced off the far post. LA defender Troy Roberts was a lucky man in the 32nd minute, when he miscued an attempted clearance, and only an acrobatic leap and one-handed save from Galaxy goalkeeper Joe Cannon spared his blushes. It was goalless at the break, and the first major incident of the second half saw Kansas City reduced to 10-men when Jimmy Conrad was sent off for a dangerous tackle. And though Kansas City continued to threaten the LA goal, the man advantage told, and in the 80th minute Mike Randolph's low cross was met by Gavin Glinton, who directed the ball past Kevin Hartman for his third goal of the season and his second in three games. It was the Galaxy's first effort on goal in the whole match. The Wizards finished the game with nine men when Davy Arnaud was also sent off, Peter Vagenas again on the receiving end of a poor tackle. The win lifted the Galaxy to 11th in the table, now just eight points behind the Chicago Fire, who hold the eighth and last play-off spot.
