In-form LA Galaxy entertained Toronto FC on Saturday knowing that victories in their final three regular season games would seal an MLS play-off berth. The Galaxy, who were without the injured David Beckham, created the game's first opportunity in the 23rd minute. Landon Donovan picked out Kyle Martino, who crossed to the onrushing Cobi Jones, but his header cleared the top of the Toronto crossbar. Martino also had a chance to open the scoring, but his telegraphed chip sailed high over the target in the 27th minute. The first half ended goalless, but the game came to life in the 54th minute when Gavin Glinton was fouled in the area by Marco Reda, who was subsequently dismissed. Donovan sent the Toronto goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot and the Galaxy led 1-0 after 56 minutes. In the 68th minute, Collin Samuel equalised for Toronto with a shot from the edge of the area. It was his second goal of the season. With 12 minutes remaining, Edson Buddle, who had come on just a minute earlier, put the Galaxy ahead 2-1 after good work by Chris Klein and Donovan. It was his fifth goal of the campaign and the Galaxy went on to beat Toronto 2-1 to keep alive their play-off hopes. It was the Galaxy's fifth win in a row. But Toronto dropped to last place in the Eastern standings.
