  • D.C. United may have headed into the first leg of their Eastern Conference semi-final series against the Chicago Fire in Bridgewater as top seeds, but they had yet to beat their hosts in five post-season meetings. A hopeful punt up field from defender Gonzalo Segares led to the Fire opening the scoring in the 14th minute. Chris Rolfe took possesion after a weak header from Greg Vanney before firing past goalkeeper Troy Perkins. United's defence was once again caught out by a direct ball from the Fire's half four minutes later. Cuauhtemoc Blanco cut inside his marker, but the Mexican's curling strike was punched away by Perkins. Blanco turned provider in the 77th minute, slicing apart the DC defence with a measured pass to Calen Carr - but Perkins was quick off his goal-line. Substitute Jaime Moreno had a chance to grab an equaliser in injury time, but he failed to connect with Christian Gomez's inviting cross. The Fire held on in the remaining minutes and they will take a deserved one-goal lead into the second leg at RFK Stadium in a week's time.
