Double world champion Fernando Alonso has brought a turbulent time with McLaren to an end by securing an early exit from from his contract. Friday's news follows just one season with the British Formula 1 team - the Spaniard orginally signed for three in deal worth 72 million US dollars. Alonso's relationship with McLaren became strained when he reportedly claimed he should be given preferrential treatment to team-mate Lewis Hamilton, who enjoyed a sensational maiden F1 season. Further tensions were revealed when emails written by Alonso were used to implicate McLaren in the spying row which saw them excluded from the constructors' championship and fined a record 100 million US dollars by the FIA. Following back-to-back titles with Renault, the 27-year-old finished the 2007 season level on points with Hamilton and just one adrift of new champion, Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen. Alonso is now free to join a new team with Red Bull and Renault regarded as interested parties.
