rematch; Lorena Ochoa wins richest LPGA prize
Determined Dynamo retain MLS Cup. Asia awaits battle of the tennis legends. And Ochoa claims the richest prize in women's golf. SOCCER MLS (No access USA and Canada) Washington's RFK Stadium staged the Major League Soccer Cup final on Sunday, with Houston Dynamo looking to defend the trophy they won a year ago. Opponents New England Revolution had lost on their three previous appearances in the MLS Cup final, but took a 1-0 lead in this match through Taylor Twellman. It was Twellman's sixth goal in his last seven play-off games. The Revolution held their advantage into the break, but Houston scrambled an equaliser just after the hour mark. Brian Mullan's cross was poorly dealt with by the defence and Dwayne De Rosario cut the ball back for Joseph Ngwenya to finish. Thirteen minutes later, De Rosario went from provider to scorer. Brad Davis chipped the ball into the penalty area and De Rosario's snap header gave Matt Reis no chance. Jeff Larentowicz's late header was saved by Pat Onstad to preserve the Dynamo's precious lead. Houston triumphed 2-1, becoming the first back-to-back champions since D.C. United won the competition's first two titles in 1996 and 1997. TENNIS KOREA It is a question often argued amongst tennis fans: who is the greatest? Pete Sampras or Roger Federer? Now a series of three exhibition matches across Asia may help to put an end to the debate. First stop for the duo is Seoul, followed by showdowns in Kuala Lumpur and Macau. At the moment, Sampras has the edge in terms of Grand Slam titles, winning 14, but 26 year-old Federer - fresh from lifting the Masters Cup in Shanghai - is only two behind that tally. SOUNDBITE (English) "Playing one of my favourite players of all time, and he's sort of an idol too. It's a different situation, someway it's a great honour, but it's not easy at the same time. So I'm just looking forward to really playing a nice match and hopefully enjoying as much as I can. I think it's going to be a lot of fun, and I'm happy that Pete was able to make this long trip." SUPERCAPTION: Roger Federer SOUNDBITE (English) "I'm up against a very big challenge against Roger. He's prime and he's playing great last week, and I've stepping it up my practices, in terms of pushing a little bit, but being a little big older and retired for five years, I'm maybe not quite as sharp as I used to be, but I still feel like I can play well and I'll be competitive against him." SUPERCAPTION: Pete Sampras Officially the pair have only met once before - as a little known 19 year-old Federer beat Sampras in a five-set marathon at Wimbledon in 2001. If their latest encounters are half as good, then the Asian public are in for a real treat. LPGA FLORIDA The LPGA's season-ending ADT Championship reached a conclusion at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday. A quadruple bogey at the 7th put paid to Karrie's Webb chances - the dejected Australian going on to card a 12-over-par 84. The 7th also proved a costly hole for Korean Mi Hyun Kim - a triple bogey in a round of 78 causing her to lose touch with the leaders. Paula Creamer played consistently to finish third after an even-par 72 - but the title looked to be heading the way of world number one Lorena Ochoa. A birdie at the 9th gave the Mexican native a five-stroke lead. However, Natalie Gulbis closed the gap, and while the American birdied the 17th, Ochoa dropped two shots at the same hole to sit just one stroke ahead heading up the last. With a chance to tie Ochoa momentarily, Gulbis' birdie attempt at 18 came up short. Needing only to two putt for the win, Ochoa sank her birdie attempt to capture the championship and claim the lucrative one million US dollar prize, the richest in women's golf.
