Saudi Arabia and Qatar both needed to win to keep alive their Olympic qualification hopes as they met at the Prince Mohammed Bin Fahed Stadium. After a dull first half, the game came to life in an action-packed five minutes midway through the second period. Ibrahima Nadiya's deft touch put Magid Hassan in the clear and he gave Qatar a 1-0 lead. A minute later, Nadiya undid much of his good work when he elbowed Majed Al Amri away from the cameras and was sent off. Two minutes later, the hosts equalised. Yousef Al Salem was brought down in the penalty area by Ibrahim Abdulmajed - Jufian Al Albishi tucked away the spot kick. Then, with just a minute remaining, captain Abdullatif Al Ghannam scored Saudi Arabia's winner. The Saudis must now beat Group C leaders Japan in their final match to reach Beijing 2008. However, a draw for their opponents in Tokyo would though see them go through instead.
