Maria Sharapova ended her holiday break on Sunday with an exhibition match against Russian compatriot Anna Chakvetadze in Singapore. Chakvetadze, the WTA's sixth ranked player, looked rusty as the world-number-five quickly went 2-love ahead. Sharapova got all the breaks in the first set - taking the ball off the net cord here - before yet another smash to make it 15-love in the fifth game. Chakvetadze finally got on track in the second set, forcing her opponent long to take a 2-1 lead. The former Wimbledon and US Open champion was trailing 5-2 before she fought back. Sharapova forced a tie breaker and survived one of several set points to draw it even at 7-7. The tie-break was tight, but Sharapova finally won through 12-10 to take the match 6-0, 7-6. It was good to see them perform and I think we all bonded really well and I think all of us are looking forward to competing together in the Fed Cup in the future."
