  • F1 car; Tour of Qatar stage four

Braced for England squad announcement, David Beckham visits Brazil. Honda show off new F1 car. And Loddo takes Tour of Qatar stage four. SOCCER BECKHAM David Beckham made a rare visit to Brazil on Tuesday to promote his latest initiative to help emerging soccer talent. Part of a luxury resort in the north eastern city of Natal, 'David Beckham World of Sport' will be similar to the academies the star midfielder already oversees in London and Los Angeles. SOUNDBITE (English) "There are many other things that are going to be going on, beautiful hotels and some beautiful houses and - like I said - the football side is going to be one of the best facilities that's built - the best facility that's built in the world." SUPERCAPTION: David Beckham, LA Galaxy Asked about his own career in Brazil, the LA Galaxy player insisted he is "as fit as he can be" having trained with Arsenal during the MLS close season. He hopes to win his 100th international cap in next Wednesday's friendly with Switzerland at Wembley under new England coach Fabio Capello. SOUNDBITE (English) "You can't get away from it, everyone is talking about... not just my 100th cap but obviously the new manager and who he is going to pick in the team and what is going to change. You know there needs to be changes but he is going to do what's best for the team and best for the country. He did that at Real Madrid when he was obviously manager there and he was successful. He has been successful everywhere he has been manager and players speak very highly of him and I have got a lot of respect for him. So, we are lucky that he is manager of the team now and things will obviously turn around because they need to. We need to be in big competitions, we are not in the next one but we need to be the one after that." SUPERCAPTION: David Beckham, LA Galaxy A former boss of Beckham's at Real Madrid, Capello will name his squad for next week's match on Saturday. F1 HONDA Following an initial shakedown test in Valencia last week, Honda officially unveiled the new RA108 at their Northamptonshire HQ on Tuesday. With drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello behind the wheel, the car carries the hopes of the Japanese manufacturer after a disappointing 2007 campaign. However, their six-point haul is something of a distant memory after November ushered in the arrival of a new team principal, former Ferrari technical director Ross Brawn. Now 28, Button seems content having publicly criticised the performance of last year's vehicle. SOUNDBITE (English) "For 2008 there is a lot of changes, you know with personnel in the team - a lot of changes. The most obvious one is Ross Brawn, the new team principle, but also in the aerodynamic side, engineering and in a few other areas we have a lot of new personnel which are making a lot of difference. We already have a very strong team but this new personnel is making a big, big difference. We are positive for the future, I am positive for the future with Honda - we have just get to take it step by step now." SUPERCAPTION: Jenson Button, Driver - Honda F1 Racing Team Experienced Austrian Alexander Wurz, formerly of Williams, is the latest addition to the team - the 33-year-old will become reserve driver. A worldwide initiative that supports inspirational projects dominates the new car's livery. But with Brawn's guidance, can Button and Barrichello start turning Honda's dreams into reality in the RA108? CYCLING QATAR After the camel track on the previous day, the magnificent Khalifa Stadium welcomed the riders for the start of stage four of the Tour of Qatar heading to the Al Khor Corniche. A pack of 130 men took off north, making the best of a tail wind on most of the 131.5 kilometre stage. Following the usual series of twists and turns, a leading group of 40 riders was one minute and 40 seconds ahead with 20 kilometres to go. They included event leader Tom Boonen. Getting closer to the end of the stage, the blue and white Quick Step train started working for Boonen. But Italian Alberto Loddo surprised everyone, beating Boonen and German Sebastian Siedler to the line. After winning a stage back in 2002 and even claiming the event in 2003, Loddo proved that it was possible to beat the Belgian in Qatar. However, Thursday's runner-up remains in the overall lead with an 18 second advantage over Steven De Jongh. Boonen also keeps command of the battle for the silver jersey, while Greg van Avermaet, third overall, remains the best young rider. Thursday's fifth stage spans 170-km from Al Khor Academy to Al Khor Corniche.
