Lyon held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw in the Champions League on Wednesday night, with the French champions three minutes from victory before a late Carlos Tevez strike saw United level. Karim Benzema, much admired by United coach Sir Alex Ferguson, had put Alain Perrin's team ahead at their Stade Gerland. SOUNDBITE: (French) "The team's performance was interesting and it was at a level I have always thought that we could play at. Everyone showed lots of concentration, individual quality and we were also well organised as a team so we succeeded in upsetting Manchester's game and playing on the counter-attack. But unfortunately, we couldn't maintain our game plan until the end." SUPERCAPTION: Alain Perrin, Lyon Coach. On a night of records, Ryan Giggs played his 100th European game for Manchester United, with Lyon goalkeeper Gregory Coupet influential in keeping Ferguson's United at bay on his 500th appearance for his club. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Well, I think it was a setback to lose a goal because at that moment in the game we were in control and a fantastic goal gave them the energy to make it difficult for us in terms of defending. I thought they defended very well." SUPER CAPTION: Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United Coach. SOUNDBITE: (English) "So, I think we are delighted to get a draw because when you score late on you are never really sure you are going to get that type of late goal in European football. It gives us a good opportunity to qualify." SUPERCAPTION: Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United Coach. The late goal by substitute Tevez swings the tie in United's favour, but Lyon have a glimmer of hope in the return leg at Old Trafford.
