The third place match in the inaugural four-team Pan Pacific Championship in Hawaii saw David Beckham lead out LA Galaxy against Australia's Sydney F.C. Galaxy grabbed an early goal thanks to a trademark cross from their captain. Ely Allen steamed in to meet Beckham's pass with only three minutes gone. Beckham's joy turned to anger ten minutes later when he was adjudged to have handled. The decision triggered a furious outburst - the midfielder took a couple of minutes to cool down but escaped without a booking. Sydney got themselves level in the 42nd minute with a sensational strike. Brendan Renaud's shot flew past Steve Cronin in the L.A. goal. Galaxy, though, grabbed the winner seconds before half-time with Beckham involved yet again. His cross tempted Neceveski out of goal, but the ball fell to Josh Tudela. Cronin did well to prevent Sydney scoring a second-half equaliser - and Beckham was able to reflect on a much-improved display after the 1-0 defeat to eventual winners Gamba Osaka in Wednesday's semi-final. SOUNDBITE (English) "I think the difference was that we started off a lot better. Straight from the first whistle we played our football, we defended well, we worked hard and we got an early goal. So, that's always good... and we played some really good football today, as well... It's been a great stay in Hawaii. Everybody's been great to us, very friendly. Amazing place to come, great beaches, nice weather and the people have been amazing in the stadium." SUPERCAPTION: David Beckham, L.A. Galaxy So, a final wave for the Honolulu crowd. Next on the Galaxy's agenda is an Asian Tour, beginning with a friendly against F.C. Seoul on the 29th.
