SEOUL (Yonhap) -- The following is a chronological review of major developments related to North Korea from Oct. 16-22, 2014.

16 Kang Sok-ju, a member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), meets the delegation of the Maritime Territorial branch of the United Russia Party.

16 Nasri Gustaman, Indonesian ambassador to North Korea, and his embassy officials do friendship labor at the North Korea-Indonesia Friendship Yaksu Cooperative Farm in Kangso District, Nampho City.

16 The (North) Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) releases an open report on what it called the whole story of how the north-south emergency contact in Panmunjom on Oct. 15 ended without any fruit.

17 North Korean leader Kim Jong-un provides field guidance to the completed apartment houses for educators of Kim Chaek University of Technology.

17 Kim Yong-nam, president of the Presidium of DPRK (North Korea) Supreme People's Assembly, will soon pay official goodwill visits to some African countries, including Ethiopia, Sudan and Congo, the KCNA says.

17 The KCNA says Kim Jong-un, Kim Yong-nam and Premier Pak Pong-ju received a reply message from Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and Zhang Dejiang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China, on Oct. 13.

17 The KCNA says the 3rd North Korea-China economy, trade, culture and tourism expo opened in Dandong, China, on Oct. 16.

17 A ceremony marking the completion of the modern Wisong Scientists Residential Quarter in the Unjong science area is held on the occasion of the 69th founding anniversary of the WPK.

18 The KCNA says the North Korean consulate general in Nakhodka, Russia, hosted a reception on Oct. 10 on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between North Korea and Russia.

18 An enlarged plenary meeting of the Cabinet takes place.

18 A ceremony takes place to mark the completion of the construction of apartment houses for educators of Kim Chaek University of Technology.

19 Kim Jong-un, along with his wife, Ri Sol-ju, meets players who bagged gold medals at the 17th Asian Games and recent world championships and their coaches.

19 Kim Jong-un guides the takeoff and landing drill on a highway-airfield conducted by fighter pilots of the KPA Air and Anti-Air Force Units 1017 and 458 honored with the title of O the Jung-hup-led 7th Regiment.

19 Kim Jong-un provides the scientists of the State Academy of Sciences with new flats in the Wisong Scientists Residential Quarter and sends them color TV sets, quilts and household utensils as gifts.

20 Minister of Development of Far East of Russia Alexandr Galushka, who is chairman of the Russian side to the Inter-Governmental Committee for Cooperation in Trade, Economy, Science and Technology between North Korea and Russia, arrives in Pyongyang.

20 Foreign Minister Ri Su-yong meets Alexandr Galushka at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

21 North Korea issues four kinds of stamps showing some historical relics in Kaesong City.

21 Jean-Jacques de Dardel, Swiss ambassador to North Korea, gives a reception to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the North and the Swiss Confederation.

21 The KCNA says the 3rd North Korea-China economy, trade, culture and tourism expo took place in Dandong, China, from Oct. 16 to 20.

22 Kim Jong-un provides field guidance to the completed Yonphung Scientists Rest Home.
