(ITU) Special forum held to share views on ICT future

BUSAN, Oct. 23 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's ICT ministry said Thursday it will host a special forum on the technology industry on the sidelines of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) gathering being held in Busan to discuss the future of information and communications technology (ICT).

Dubbed the 2014 Global ICT Premier Forum, the two-day event will kick off Monday, with top officials from companies both at home and abroad, including KT Corp., Daum Kakao, Samsung Electronics Co., IBM, Google, and Microsoft giving speeches on the ICT industry.

The ministry said the event's main area of focus is "creative government," "creative enterprise," and "creative user."

"It is expected that officials from ICT-related organization and firms, including the delegates to the ITU meeting, will exchange their ideas the new growth paradigm, the creative economy," the ministry said in its release.

One of the key policies of President Park Geun-hye, the creative economy drive seeks to foster economic growth by turning innovative ideas into actual businesses through the use of advanced technology.

The 19th ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, referred to as the PP-14, continues until Nov. 7. The event is held every four years, and it is the second time for the event to be held in Asia.

The ITU is an information and communications arm of the U.N. that sets technological standards, allocates radio frequencies and satellite orbits and works to improve the quality of communication services.
