Police probe deranged man suspected of killing parents
DAEJEON, Oct. 23 (Yonhap) -- Police said Thursday they are investigating a 39-year-old man who allegedly confessed to killing his parents after showing symptoms of mental illness.
The man, identified only by his surname Lee, is suspected of stabbing his parents to death in their home in eastern Daejeon, 164 kilometers south of Seoul, the Daejeon Dongbu Police Station said.
The incident happened around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, and after about five hours, Lee reported himself to the police, leading to his own arrest in his villa, police said.
Neighbors said Lee had appeared mentally disturbed and caused frequent issues around the building, including cutting Internet cables belonging to his neighbors and applying adhesives to people's doors.
Lee, however, had no record of receiving mental health treatment, police said, adding he told them he'd "wandered around" before turning himself in.
Police said they plan to seek an arrest warrant for Lee and are analyzing closed-circuit TV footage captured around the neighborhood. Lee's relatives have also been called in for questioning, they added.
