S. Korea to pay 98 mln won for N. Korea's Para Asia participation
SEOUL, Oct. 31 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has decided to pay up to 98 million won (US$92,800) for North Korea's participation in the Incheon Para Games earlier this month, an official said Friday.
The North sent a 29-member team to the games held in the South's western port city from Oct. 18-24.
The organizing committee asked the government to use the South-North Cooperation Fund to promote inter-Korean exchange, according to the unification ministry.
After a review of the issue, related government organizations agreed to pay as much as 98 million won to cover the costs of the North Korean delegation's stay in the South during the competition, the ministry's deputy spokeswoman Park Soo-jin told reporters.
Its airfare was paid by the Asian Paralympic Committee, she added.
