Retired Yankees closer Mariano Rivera to visit S. Korea on promotional tour
SEOUL, Oct. 31 (Yonhap) -- Mariano Rivera, the former All-Star closer for the New York Yankees, will visit South Korea next month on a corporate promotional tour, officials said on Friday.
Harman International Korea, the domestic wing of the American audio equipment company, said Rivera, the career leader in Major League Baseball (MLB) with 652 saves, will arrive in South Korea on Nov. 11 as a corporate spokesman for its JBL headsets.
Rivera, 44, will stay here until Nov. 15, and will hold a fan meeting and a baseball clinic, Harman officials added.
Rivera, an 11-time All-Star, spent his entire 19-year career with the Yankees. He made 10 starts in his first year in 1995 and served as a setup man to John Wetteland in 1996.
After becoming the closer in 1997, Rivera racked up at least 30 saves in 15 of 17 seasons.
Rivera also established himself as the most-feared closer in the postseason. He helped the Yankees win five World Series, and collected a record 42 saves in the playoffs with a 0.70 ERA in 141 innings.
