SEOUL, March 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's mobile carriers said Monday they will accept preorders for Samsung Electronics Co.'s latest high-end smartphone models -- the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge -- this week, adding that the models will be available for use on April 10.

SK Telecom Co., the country's leading mobile carrier, said subscribers can make orders at its 4,000 local retails shops starting Wednesday. The two smartphones will be available in three colors -- white, black, gold.

A blue edition of the Galaxy S6 and a green version of the Galaxy S6 Edge will also be available starting in May.

The move came after South Korea's telecom watchdog, the Korea Communications Commission, last week slapped SK Telecom with a seven-day business suspension, but did not decide when to start the suspension because of the possible repercussions on consumers ahead of the launch of the new Galaxy smartphones

SK Telecom was also slapped with a 23.5 billion won (US$21.29 million) fine for giving out illegal subsidies to new users, a move that may distort market transparency and spark excessive competition among carriers.

KT Corp. and LG Uplus Corp. also said they will start a special promotion for preorders starting Wednesday.

The carriers, however, have not yet revealed price details.

The new Galaxy S6 series, unveiled ahead of the Mobile World Congress in Spain early this month, boasts the industry's first wireless-charging batteries and Samsung's mobile payment system set for a local debut in the second half of this year.
