N. Korean leader visits plane factory
SEOUL, April 1 (Yonhap) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un piloted a new home-made light plane himself during a visit to a related factory, Pyongyang's media said Wednesday.
The North's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) carried an unusual report of the secretive nation's plane-manufacturing factory.
It said that Kim, known for his interest in science, technology and the air force, expressed pleasure that the country's workers "made a marvelous sci-tech achievement with worldwide competitive power in the course of developing cutting-edge equipment."
Their work is a "solid springboard for rapid progress" of the North's science and machine industry, he added.
After looking around the factory, he got aboard one of the new planes and conducted its take-off and landing test in person, according to the KCNA.
"I have to try the airplane as it was produced by our working class. This will please our scientists, technicians and workers and encourage them to the dynamic work for attaining a higher goal," he was quoted as saying.
The KCNA did not provide the exact time or venue for his so-called field guidance.
