Seoul shares down 1.1 pct in late-morning trade
SEOUL, May 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks traded 1.1 percent lower late Wednesday morning on growing concerns over the slowing U.S. economy and the Greece debt issue, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) tumbled 23.39 points to 2,108.84 as of 11:20 a.m.
Tech shares continued to lose ground, with Samsung Electronics sinking 2.79 percent and SK hynix falling 2.99 percent. LG Electronics, Samsung's smaller rival, lost 1.34 percent.
Builders also traded bearish, with Hyundai Engineering & Construction losing 0.96 percent and Daewoo Engineering & Construction dipping 1.68 percent. Daelim Industrial shed 2.86 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,081.20 won against the U.S. dollar as of 11:20 a.m., down 2.00 won from Monday's close. The South Korean financial market was closed Tuesday in observance of Children's Day.
