One worker killed in accident at Samsung SDI facility
CHEONAN, South Korea, May 29 (Yonhap) -- A worker was crushed to death on Friday while dismantling Samsung SDI Co.'s unused plasma display panel (PDP) facility south of Seoul, police said.
The accident took place when a 2.5-meter-high panel fell while the 58-year-old worker was demolishing the PDP production facility in Cheonan, about 92 kilometers south of Seoul.
Samsung SDI, the battery arm of South Korea's top conglomerate Samsung Group, discontinued its PDP business last year to focus on its materials and energy businesses.
Police said they are investigating into whether the company followed safety rules.
