SEOUL, July 3 (Yonhap) -- A navy officer has been arrested on charges of leaking South Korea's military secrets to China, military sources said Friday.

The sources identified him as a lieutenant commander in the Defense Security Command, which is tasked with counterespionage, citing military prosecutors.

The officer is suspected of handing over materials deemed military secrets in return for receiving money after being won over to China by a Chinese agent while he was studying in China, the source said, without giving any further details.

It was not immediately clear when he started receiving the bribes.
