Park's approval rating edges up
SEOUL, July 6 (Yonhap) -- President Park Geun-hye's job approval rating edged up as conservatives rallied around her following her showdown with the parliament over a controversial bill, a poll showed Monday.
A new poll conducted by polling agency Realmeter put Park's approval rating at 37.3 percent, up 3.7 percentage points from a week earlier.
It said the slight uptick in Park's approval rating came as conservatives -- key supporters of Park -- rallied around her after Park vetoed a parliamentary bill designed to empower the National Assembly to challenge government enactment.
Park has denounced the bill as the parliament's encroachment on administrative rights.
The polling agency also said a slowdown in new infections of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome appeared to have improved Park's approval rating.
The virus has killed 33 people, and no additional deaths have been reported over the past six days.
Those who disapproved of Park's job performance came to 57.1 percent, down 3.2 percentage points from a week earlier.
The survey was conducted on 2,500 adults between June 29 and July 3 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.0 percentage points.
