Park congratulates Park In-bee on LPGA career grand slam
SEOUL, Aug. 3 (Yonhap) -- President Park Geun-hye Monday congratulated Park In-bee on achieving a career grand slam on the U.S. LPGA Tour.
Park said in a message to the 27-year-old that she hopes that the golfer will bring joy and happiness to South Koreans through her passion for playing.
The message came hours after Park captured the Ricoh Women's British Open at 12-under 276 at Trump Turnberry Resort in Scotland.
Park, ranked first in the world, became only the seventh LPGA golfer to win at least four different majors over a career, joining Louise Suggs, Mickey Wright, Pat Bradley, Juli Inkster, Karrie Webb and Annika Sorenstam.
With Park having earlier won three other majors over her career -- ANA Inspiration, KPMG Women's PGA Championship and the U.S. Women's Open -- the tour has said winning at least four different majors in the current era would constitute a grand slam, while winning five would be called 'a super slam.'
Park, the golfer, said completing the slam was "a dream come true" and "the greatest feat I've accomplished as a pro."
