GM Korea's sales dip 17 pct in Aug.
SEOUL, Sept. 1 (Yonhap) -- GM Korea Co., the local unit of U.S. carmaker General Motors Co., said Tuesday that its sales in August plunged 16.5 percent from the previous year, dragged down by a decline in overseas demand.
Total sales for last month came to 35,940 units, down from the 43,018 units posted in the year before, the company said.
The company saw disappointing results in its overseas shipments with sales abroad plummeting 28.9 percent to 22,096 units over the cited period.
Domestic sales, in contrast, jumped 16 percent on-year to 13,844 units to help offset some of the setbacks in overseas markets.
Cumulative sales came to 403,309 units in the first eight months of the year, down 3.9 percent from the 419,635 units registered a year earlier, according to GM Korea.
