S. Korea to host AfDB conference in 2018
SEJONG, May 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's government said Wednesday it has been unanimously selected to host the annual conference of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in 2018.
The Ministry of Strategy and Finance said 80 member countries -- comprised of 54 African and 26 non-African, including South Korea -- have made the decision. Vice Finance Minister Song Eon-seok has been bidding for the event at its annual conference which kicked off Tuesday in Lusaka, Zambia.
As South Korea succeeded in attracting the AfDB conference, it will soon become a country that has assumed chairmanships in all six international institutions, including IMF, World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
The ministry said it is planning to hold the upcoming conference on a grand-scale by linking it with the ministerial-level Korea African Economic Cooperation (KOAFEC) meeting.
The government said it is expecting the meeting to become a foothold for South Koreans and local enterprises to advance abroad.
