S. Korea says it received no formal request from Japan over G7 summit
By Kim Kwang-tae
ADDIS ABABA, May 27 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has received no formal request from Tokyo to participate in this week’s G7 summit that was held in Japan, a South Korean official said Friday.
Presidential spokesman Jeong Yeon-guk made the comments to reporters in Addis Ababa, where South Korean President Park Geun-hye is visiting.
Jeong made the comments in response to an opposition claim that Park is visiting Africa, though South Korea was invited to attend the G7 summit as an observer.
G7 -- which groups the United States, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan -- was held at Ise-Shima, about 300 kilometers southwest of Tokyo.
