SEOUL, June 26 (Yonhap) -- Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors set a South Korean pro football winning streak record on Sunday.

In the latest K League Classic action, Jeonbuk played Gwangju FC to a 1-1 draw at Gwangju World Cup Stadium in Gwangju some 350 kilometers southwest of Seoul.

Jeonbuk have now run their undefeated streak to 16 matches, with eight wins and eight draws, in 2016, the longest such run to start a season.

The 2007 Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma held the previous mark after opening their season with 11 wins and four draws.

Jeonbuk also hold the record for the longest unbeaten streak at any period in a regular season with 22, from September 2014 to April 2015.

Jeonbuk, the two-time defending K League Classic champions, remained in first place by improving to 32 points. FC Seoul, which lost to Pohang Steelers 2-1 Saturday, are in second with 30 points.

Against Gwangju, Jeonbuk opened the scoring as forward Lee Dong-gook converted a penalty in the 19th minute. It stayed 1-0 for Jeonbuk until the 84th minute, as Gwangju's Jung Jo-gook also scored a penalty.

It was Jung's 10th goal of the season, putting him in a tie for second with FC Seoul's Adriano.
