Military chopper makes emergency landing in Imsil, no damages reported
IMSIL, South Korea, June 28 (Yonhap) -- An Air Force CH-47 Chinook helicopter made an emergency landing at a field in the rural southwestern town of Imsil on Tuesday, but no damages were reported, military authorities said.
The tandem rotor heavy-lift chopper, which belongs to an Air Force unit based at Cheongju International Airport, made the landing at around 4:45 p.m. near the North Jeolla Province town some 260 kilometers southwest of Seoul.
The aircraft did not sustain any exterior damage and no casualties were reported among the two pilots and 32 military personnel who were on board, according to the authorities.
The chopper was on its way to the base after flying to Naro Space Center located in Goheung on the country's southern coast.
The military said a malfunction in the oil system may have forced the chopper to make a speedy landing, although the exact cause of the accident is under investigation.
The military said it has sent maintenance personnel to the site of the accident and the plane will return to base once inspections are complete.
