4 S. Koreans punished for spying for N. Korea: military
SEOUL, July 1 (Yonhap) -- Four South Korean civilians were indicted in May last year on charges of providing military intelligence to North Korea, the military said on Friday.
Four other suspected spies are currently under investigation for allegedly attempting to persuade soldiers to spy for Pyongyang, the Defense Security Command (DSC) reported to a closed-door session of the National Assembly's Intelligence Committee.
"The DSC reported that they tried to intercept military secrets and recruit soldiers to become spies," Rep. Yi Wan-young, who is the ranking Saenuri Party member at the committee, told reporters. "They were all civilians," he added.
The lawmaker did not disclose the names, ages or genders of those who were caught conducting espionage activities.
