S. Korea finishes runner-up at LPGA match play event

SEOUL, July 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korea has come up just shy of taking an LPGA international match play competition.

South Korea finished second to the United States at the International Crown at Meric Club, just outside Chicago, on Sunday (local time). After three days of fourballs and the final day of singles matches, South Korea earned 12 points, one back of the Americans.

Ryu So-yeon and Kim Sei-young picked up victories in their singles matches, but Amy Yang and Chun In-gee suffered losses as South Korea added just four points to the board.

South Korea finished tied for third at the inaugural event two years ago.

The United States, which lost both of its fourball matches on Day 1, only dropped one more match the rest of the way. The singles victories by Stacy Lewis, Gerina Piller and Cristie Kerr sealed the title for the Americans.

This was the second edition of the International Crown, created by the LPGA in 2014. The 2018 tournament will be played at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea in Incheon, just west of Seoul. It will be the first to be played outside the United States.
