Incheon airport sees daily record No. of passengers
SEOUL, July 30 (Yonhap) -- Incheon International Airport, South Korea's main gateway, was expected to see its record number of daily passengers renewed Friday, just one day after hitting a record high, airport officials said.
The number of passengers arriving at and departing from the airport was expected to reach 195,034 at the end of the day, the highest daily tally since the airport opened in early 2001, according to officials from the state-run Korea Airport Corp.
The previous record of 189,742 was set the previous day.
The daily increase was attributed to a sharp rise in the number of South Koreans going abroad for summer vacation.
On Saturday alone, a total of 103,082 people were expected to leave the country via the Incheon airport, according to the officials.
The airport operator earlier estimated 5.42 million people would leave or arrive in the country through the airport during a one-month summer vacation period that started July 16.
