Rangers' Choo Shin-soo suffers broken forearm

All News 16:45 August 16, 2016

SEOUL, Aug. 16 (Yonhap) -- Choo Shin-soo of the Texas Rangers suffered a broken forearm during a game against the Oakland Athletics, forcing him to head to the disabled list (DL) for the fourth time this season.

Batting leadoff as designated hitter, Choo got hit by a pitch from A's starter Ross Detwiler that fractured his left forearm. Choo was replaced by Nomar Mazara in the fifth inning of the Rangers' 5-2 win at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas, on Monday (local time). Choo was forced to finish the game 0-for-2, and his batting average dropped to .247.

The Rangers later said that Choo will head to the DL for his injury but didn't announce when the 34-year-old will return. This is the fourth DL stint for Choo this season after he was sidelined with a back injury in July, a strained hamstring in May and a calf ailment in April.

The Rangers said Choo's injury was similar to one sustained by catcher Robinson Chirinos who missed two months for his injury, meaning that the South Korean veteran is likely done for the season. The end of the 2016 regular season is less than 50 days away.

In only 198 plate appearances in 45 games, Choo has gone .247/.369/.416 with seven home runs, 17 RBIs and six steals.
