S. Korea broadens travel alert over DR Congo
SEOUL, Nov. 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korea issued a travel alert over the entire territory of the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Wednesday, citing political unrest ahead of a government change.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued its third-highest travel warning for the African country, expanding its travel alert previously issued over a few areas.
The latest alert advises travelers currently in DR Congo to leave the country or those who are planning to visit the nation to cancel their plans.
Seoul maintains a four-tiered travel warning system to protect its citizens from going to places that may be unsafe or dangerous.
"Political instability continues over the presidential election, with the public safety situation expected to get worse ahead of the termination of the current president's term on Dec. 19," the ministry noted.
