S. Korean tandem finishes 20th in doubles luge at PyeongChang World Cup
PYEONGCHANG, South Korea, Feb. 18 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's luge tandem Park Jin-yong and Cho Jung-myung finished 20th at an International Luge Federation (FIL) competition here on Saturday.
Park and Cho had a combined time of 1 minute, 35.851 seconds to finish 20th among 24 teams in the men's doubles luge at the FIL Luge World Cup in PyeongChang, Gangwon Province, some 180 kilometers east of Seoul.
The South Korean duo, who finished 18th among 19 teams at the 2014 Olympics, was 18th with a time of 47.844 seconds after their first run at Alpensia Sliding Centre, but dropped to 20th following their second try with 48.007.
Germans swept the podium in the same order as they did at the World Championships in Igls, Austria, last month.
Reigning Worlds champions Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken finished first at 1:33.581, which was 0.212 second faster than Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt. Robin Johannes Geueke and David Gamm were third at 1:33.831.
The three German teams are also ranked in that order in the season World Cup rankings. Eggert and Benecken have won eight of the 11 World Cups this season so far, while Wendl and Arlt triumphed at three World Cups.
The FIL World Cup is one of the test events for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. It is also the first international competition contested at the country's only track for winter sliding sports.
