JINCHEON, South Korea, July 1 (Yonhap) -- Two multi-vehicle car crashes happened Saturday on a major highway running through the central part of South Korea, but no one was seriously hurt, police said.

A pileup happened around 9:30 a.m. on a section of highway near Jincheon, some 90 kilometers southeast of Seoul, when a passenger vehicle rear-ended another. It led to a chain reaction of seven cars crashing.

The pileup was followed later by another one as a car slowing down near the area was also rear-ended. Five vehicles were involved in the accident.

The back-to-back pileups and efforts to clear the road snarled traffic, but no one was reported to be seriously hurt. Police said that an investigation is under way to determine the exact cause of the accidents.
