Seoul stocks open flat on mixed blue chip trading
SEOUL, Aug. 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks opened lower Thursday as key blue chip shares traded mixed, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 0.39 point, or 0.02 percent, to 2,347.87 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Market behemoth Samsung Electronics advanced 1.26 percent, with No. 2 chipmaker SK hynix also increasing 0.3 percent. LG Display added 1.86 percent.
Carmakers traded lower, with industry leader Hyundai Motor falling 1.38 percent and its auto parts affiliate Hyundai Mobis losing 2.23 percent. Kia Motors moved down 0.85 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,135.75 won against the U.S. dollar, up 5.75 won from the previous session's close.
