SEOUL, Oct. 20 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's defense ministry and intelligence agency agreed Friday to strengthen information sharing and human resources exchanges to cope with worsening security conditions on the peninsula.

Defense Minister Song Young-moo and Suh Hoon, head of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote "effective cooperation" at the NIS headquarters in Seoul.

The first such agreement will serve as a "new turning point for the military and the intelligence agency to work together and create synergy," the ministry said.
