SEOUL, Nov. 26 (Yonhap) -- Russia's top envoy on North Korea's nuclear issue arrived in Seoul on Sunday for discussions with South Korean officials.

Vice Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov, Russia's top negotiator on North Korea's nuclear weapons program, is scheduled to meet with his South Korean counterpart Lee Do-hoon on Monday.

The officials are likely to share their countries' assessment on the current security situation on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea has held off on military provocations for over two months, a condition that has the potential to open negotiations with North Korea.

The two sides are also expected to reaffirm their commitment to a peaceful resolution of the North Korean issue.

On Monday, Morgulov will also meet with Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Yoon Soon-gu for the 17th round of a policy consultative meeting between South Korea and Russia, officials said.
