Long jump world record holder Mike Powell gives lectures to S. Korean coaches
SEOUL, Dec. 24 (Yonhap) -- Long jump world record holder Mike Powell gave lectures to South Korean coaches over the weekend, the national track and field association said Sunday.
The Korea Association of Athletics Federations (KAAF) said Powell, 54, spoke before about 50 track and field instructors over Friday and Saturday at Korea National Sport University in Seoul. The retired athlete took the podium as part of the KAAF's invitational lecture series involving top international coaches.
The KAAF said Powell offered his tips on effective ways to improve performances in the long jump and the triple jump, and key points to consider for both coaches and athletes before competitions.
Powell set the world record in long jump with 8.95 meters at the 1991 World Championships in Athletics in Tokyo. He's a two-time world champion who has also won two Olympic silver medals. The American now coaches long jump at the Academy of Speed in Rancho Cucamonga, California.
