Daelim Industrial pushes for unpaid leave of employees amid dwindling orders
SEOUL, Feb. 26 (Yonhap) -- Daelim Industrial Co., a major South Korean industrial plant builder, said Monday it is pushing for some of its employees to take unpaid leave due to a sharp decline in overseas orders.
Daelim Industrial began to accept consent from about 1,700 employees in its plant business division on Jan. 21 so as to start implementing the unpaid leave policy.
Workers can take between one and six months off.
The move marks the first time that Daelim Industrial has pushed for its employees to take unpaid leave.
Corporate sources said Daelim Industrial's new orders in its plant business nosedived to 278.1 billion won (US$259 million) last year, about 10 percent of its orders in 2016.
The unpaid leave could begin in March if a set number of employees apply to take time off, but the company may not implement the measure if there are too few applicants, an insider said.
