SEOUL, March 1 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's tech giant LG Electronics Inc. said Thursday that it has bestowed an award of 300 million won (US$277,000) to PyeongChang Winter Olympics skeleton gold medalist Yun Sung-bin.

A ceremony was held on Wednesday to deliver the reward to the 23-year-old slider at LG Electronics' building in Seoul. The event was attended by Choi Sang-gyu, LG's president of Korea Sales and Marketing.

"I was able to get the gold medal at this Olympics due to LG's continued support," Yun was quoted by the company as saying.

Since 2015, LG Electronics has supported the South Korean national skeleton team, providing equipment and covering training expenses as the main sponsor.

Yun became the first Asian to win an Olympic medal in a sliding sport after he topped the men's skeleton sliding competition in PyeongChang.
