Yanggu County chief to receive achievement award from int'l weightlifting body
SEOUL, April 19 (Yonhap) -- Jeon Chang-beom, the governor of Yanggu County in South Korea's Gangwon Province, will receive an achievement award from the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), the national weightlifting body said Thursday.
The Korea Weightlifting Federation said Jeon has been selected as the recipient of the IWF's achievement award and he is expected to be honored at the IWF Congress in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in July.
Jeon, 65, led Yanggu County in successfully hosting the Asian Inter-Club Weightlifting Championships in 2005 when he was serving as the deputy governor and also helped the county stage four to five weightlifting competitions every year. In 2013, he was the chef de mission for the South Korean national team at the Asian Cup and Interclub Junior & Senior Weightlifting Championship in Pyongyang.
Jeon has been also leading a weightlifting federation for amateur clubs since 2011.
The KWF said it recommended Jeon to IWF for his works to develop the sport in South Korea, and the international body approved its proposal.
