Major cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb hacked

SEOUL, June 20 (Yonhap) -- One of South Korea's major cryptocurrency exchanges, Bithumb, said Wednesday it has been hacked.

The hacking attack took place between Tuesday night and Wednesday dawn and hackers stole about 35 billion won (US$31.5 million) worth of coins, the exchange said in a statement.

It was the second hacking attack in less than two weeks against cryptocurrency exchanges in South Korea.

Earlier this month, a minor exchange Coinrail said it was hacked.
