Hana Financial's top executives set to visit N. Korea in August
SEOUL, June 21 (Yonhap) -- Hana Financial Group CEO Kim Jung-tae and KEB Hana Bank chief Ham Young-joo plan to visit North Korea in August at the communist country's invitation for an international youth football event, industry insiders said Thursday.
The two senior managers will soon seek the government's approval for their cross-border trip to attend the football tournament set to take place in Pyongyang, according to sources.
The sporting event, to be hosted by the South-North Sports Exchange Association, a civilian entity based in Seoul, will bring about eight teams from the two Koreas, Europe, China and Uzbekistan. Hana Bank is the official sponsor for the national football league and the national football team.
The news comes as Ham is to stand trials starting in July after being indicted on charges of the obstruction of duties for his alleged involvement in the suspicious hiring of employees back in 2015.
