Airlines lower fuel surcharges on int'l routes in August
SEOUL, July 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korean airlines said Tuesday they have lowered their fuel surcharges on international routes for next month to reflect declining oil prices.
Local airlines have charged fuel surcharges on long-haul routes of up to 84,700 won (US$75) from May to July. The upper limit for fuel surcharges on international routes will be lowered to 72,600 won from August, an airline official said.
Airlines impose fuel surcharges by 10 levels if the average of jet fuel prices on the Singapore exchange rises over 150 cents per gallon. If jet fuel prices fall under 150 cents a gallon, they don't collect fuel surcharges.
