JAKARTA, Aug. 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korean fencer Son Young-ki took bronze in the men's individual foil at the 18th Asian Games on Tuesday.

Son lost to Huang Mengkai of China in the semifinals 15-6 at Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) Cendrawasih Hall in Jakarta. There are no third-place bouts at the Asian Games, and the two losers of the semifinals each take bronze.

Son was trying to become the first men's foil champion from South Korea since Choi Byung-chul in 2010.

This is Son's second career Asian Games medal, after bronze in the team event four years ago.

Son went down 5-1 early against Huang. He clawed back to make it 9-6, but then Huang scored six straight points to close out the South Korean.

"I needed to be more aggressive," Son said of his loss. "I didn't move quite the way that I should have. But there is the team event coming up (on Friday) and I'll try to win the gold medal there."
