US$30 mln worth of Korean entertainment content sold at content conference
SEOUL, Sept. 20 (Yonhap) – South Korean content creators inked export deals worth a total of US$30 million with overseas buyers during this year's BroadCast WorldWide (BCWW), the state-run content promotion agency said Thursday.
The event, which took place at the Convention & Exhibition Center (COEX) in southern Seoul from Sept. 4-7, attracted 2,535 foreign buyers and 157 networks, content distributors and entertainment companies in and out of the country, according to Korea Creative Content Agency. Overall, the event saw the number of visitors jump a whopping 78 percent to 11,196 from a year ago.
By country, Japanese companies, including NHK, NBC Universal Japan and TBS, came out of the conference with highest value of purchases, worth US$8.5 million, or 30 percent of the total sales.
The annual event, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and run by the agency, is aimed at producing more chances for South Korean creators to sell their products overseas and for foreign participants to check out media trends in one of Asia's most rapidly growing cultural powerhouses.
