Judicial administrative unit to be abolished in wake of scandal
SEOUL, Sept. 20 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Supreme Court will abolish its administrative affairs office embroiled in a major power abuse scandal, its chief said Thursday.
The National Court Administration (NCA) was involved in a series of alleged misdeeds under former top Justice Yang Sung-tae, including interventions in trials, illicit lobbying and surveillances of dissenting judges. Prosecutors are probing the case.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Kim Meong-su said in a statement the NCA will be dissolved and a new council, including outside experts, will be created to oversee court administration affairs. Day-to-day work will be transferred to two other smaller organizations, he said.
